The original name they chose was SuperXero but it was revised to Xero. They made just one demo tape, which included the songs "Fuse", "Reading My Eyes", "Stick N' Move" and "Rhinestone". The project floundered and they never achieved much success. After Mark Wakefield left to become the manager for Taproot the band hired new vocalist Chester Bennington, formerly of the band Grey Daze, and made the Hybrid Theory EP under the band name Hybrid Theory. The band again changed names from Hybrid Theory to Linkin Park at the release of their debut album, which is titled 'Hybrid Theory'.

Although there are very few recordings available online, there was a brief concert featuring Xero opening for Cypress Hill. Although the main concert hasn't been confirmed, it is at least known that the concert did exist, and with more songs than the original Xero Demo Tape had on it.

During the 2006 Summer Sonic tour, Linkin Park played "Reading My Eyes" with Chester. This is notable because it is possibly the first time the band has played any Xero Demo song with Chester, and it is also the first time in ten years that the band played a Xero song at all. This track is available on Linkin Park Underground 6.0.

Note: Many of these songs have a corresponding song which became the final version: "Rhinestone" would become "Forgotten", "Esaul" would become "A Place for My Head", "The Untitled" becomes "In the End", and "Now I See" becomes "With You". It is debated whether these songs were produced under the name Xero or Hybrid Theory, but it is strongly believed that these songs were later used in a demo for Hybrid Theory EP, when Chester had joined the band. It is possible that some songs were recorded with Wakefield as the lead singer, but it's somewhat unlikely due to his desire not to continue into the mainstream.

The tracks "The Team" and "Explode" may not be the actual names of the demos, but it can be confirmed that they were demos of the Hybrid Theory EP songs "Carousel" and "Part of Me". Also, the opening guitar riff in "Stick N' Move" would later be used in "Runaway".

There is a song called "Pictureboard" that was written under the name Xero but played at least once after they had become Linkin Park. This information was obtained in a private chat with Mike Shinoda and 10 LPU members.

The existence of this concert, the songs "The Team", "Explode", and "Pictureboard" however, have not been proven in any way, shape, or form. Only various LPU members and members of the Linkin Park Street Team have confirmed this information, but no hard evidence has ever been released or found. Therefore, many fans find the existence of this concert and aforementioned songs questionable.
